Understanding the landscape for single mothers

At Rise Together, we believe that understanding the challenges is the first step towards building stronger communities. Discover the crucial facts that highlight the vital role we play in supporting single mothers and families.

Why rise together exists

Rise Together exists to ensure that single mothers and families facing barriers are not left to navigate complex systems alone. We provide guidance, advocacy, and practical support so families can access education, housing, accommodations, and essential services. When mothers are supported, children thrive and communities become stronger. Rise Together is building a network where support, empowerment, and opportunity grow together.

The reality: systemic barriers for single mothers

Single mothers lead nearly one in four families with children in the United States. Despite their resilience, these households face significantly higher economic and systemic barriers. Nearly 30% of single-mother households live below the poverty line compared to about 6% of married-couple families. Accessing essential services—such as housing support, education resources, disability accommodations, legal information, and childcare—often requires navigating complex systems without guidance.

Many mothers spend hours trying to understand government applications, school accommodation processes, and legal or housing documentation. Without clear support, families can lose access to opportunities that directly affect their stability and their children’s future.

Rise Together exists to bridge this gap by helping families understand systems, organize documentation, and access the resources and accommodations they are entitled to. When families receive the guidance they need, children experience a more stable and supportive environment.

Join the solution: support rise together

These facts help visitors understand that the challenges many single mothers face are not individual failures but systemic barriers that require collective solutions. By highlighting the realities families face—such as financial instability, lack of guidance navigating institutions, and limited access to support—Rise Together encourages people to become part of the solution. Visitors can support the mission by volunteering, partnering, sharing resources, or contributing financially to expand programs that empower mothers and strengthen families. When communities invest in mothers, they invest in children and in the future of the community itself.

"When one family rises, the entire community rises."
